Past ITAA Conferences & World TA Conferences (WTAC)

2022 ITAA Online Conference

In the midst of the terrible experiences of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, both of which have affected the entire world, we need as a scientific community to come together, feel the power of belonging, and regenerate through sharing knowledge, training, and hearing others’ perspectives. In particular, important reflections on the serious challenges we face today will be offered by our four keynote speakers, including Richard Mollica, the director of the Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma, who will talk about tackling the global refugee crisis. The goal of this first ITAA online conference is to invigorate the physis in each of us to help us be courageous and resilient in adapting to our difficult times.

2019 Joint Transactional Analysis Conference

As cochairs of the 2019 joint conference, and on behalf of Southeast Institute, USATAA, and ITAA, we are immensely pleased to invite you to cocreate “Promoting Equality and OKness: Healing the Divisions in Our World,” in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, 31 July–3 August. This theme is true to the founding principles of the Southeast Institute for Group and Family Therapy, which began in 1969 as the Fellowship for Racial and Economic Equality. The healing of interpersonal and societal trauma lies at the heart of both personal and social change. Our goals are to apply transactional analysis in our lives and across the four disciplines of transactional analysis to create a world that affirms everyone’s OKness—not in spite of, but because of, our differences. The scientific program and keynotes include notable activists and authors from within and outside of the TA community, echoing our commitment to be inclusive and innovative.

Keynote Speakers

Dr. Valerie Batts, vice president of training and development of VISIONS Inc.

Dr. Graham Barnes, founder of the Fellowship for Racial and Economic Equality, which later became the Southeast Institute for Group and Family Therapy

Rokelle Lerner, author of The Object of My Affection Is in My Reflection: Coping with Narcissists

2018 Joint Transactional Analysis Conference

With the political, social, and economic impact of globalization and ever-increasing diversity in communities worldwide, we are all on different points on the cultural continuum, from the “mixed salad” to the “melting pot”—everyone a part of “The Dance of Culture.” Can this metaphor inspire us as transactional analysts to explore and, if needed, change our roles in this dance of culture and encourage others to join us?

India, with its diverse cultures, invites you to join us in beautiful Kochi to consider together “The Dance of Culture.” We will meet in the city of Ernakulam, the commercial capital of Kerala and the eastern, mainland portion of the city of Kochi (erstwhile Cochin). It is served by an international airport, fine communication facilities, excellent accommodations, and modern amenities and has many lovely places that offer a breathtaking experience for visitors.

Kochi is a fascinating blend of cultures. From time immemorial, it has been the favorite destination of globe trotters and explorers. Blessed by one of the finest natural harbors in the world, Kochi has been described as the “Queen of the Arabian Sea.” In and around Kochi are several cities of monumental value, but step into Fort Kochi, and you are in a totally different world. The Chinese fishing nets, the Jewish synagogue, the Dutch palace, the Portuguese and British architecture—all are unique features of Kochi.

2018 World Conference for TA

Organized by EATA, ITAA, and FTAA and hosted by the German Association for Transactional Analysis (DGTA)

In Berlin, peace and war have been close neighbors, and people know that boundaries can mean limits, challenges, and chances. For more than 25 years, Berliners were starkly faced with the Cold War, represented by the Berlin Wall and the fact that people could be shot because they wanted to be free. Even so, Berliners experienced the support of many people all over the world, as they did when John F. Kennedy said, “Ich bin ein Berliner!”

In Berlin, boundaries and borders have played a vital role as both a source of limitations and protection. Creating, maintaining, and finally opening a border is part of the history and memory of the city. As we celebrate more than 25 years after the fall of the Wall, we are now faced with the challenges of a world in which rich and poor people are increasingly separated, where places to meet are often virtual, where identity and the search for it is hard work. Our challenge is to help people develop the ability to be safe in managing the uncertainty of today’s world. How do we as transactional analysts respond to these challenges and take social responsibility? What are the answers, ways, and perspectives we can offer? How can we use our theory and practice to build a safer world? What are the meaning of borders and boundaries to us? How do boundaries help us to define our identity and contrast ourselves with others or establish contact with them? Is it possible to define identity without borders, by crossing borders?

Welcome to Berlin!

2015 ITAA Conference

Groups are universal. Whether it is in training, supervision, therapy, teaching, organisations or coaching…groups and the analysis of group dynamics can be transformative.  Additionally, the theme group evokes many different perspectives:

  • Individual integration, assimilation and identification relative to groups and the resulting relational dynamics, through to
  • The evolution and development of individuals in educational and organisational settings.

Culturally, socially, economically and spiritually groups are essential to the fabric of society and to the theory of Transactional Analysis.

Today, people are lamenting the loss of the group because of its power as a vehicle for primitive relational material to emerge and for learning, redecision, holding and challenging to take place. The conference theme is, in essence, a refocusing on Berne’s idea that Transactional Analysis, as an essentially interpersonal endeavour, is a group experience.
